Representative Anh Cao (R-Louisiana)’s comments stir controversy.

Excerpted in part from Hotline On Call:

Rep. Anh “Joseph” Cao (R-LA), the lone GOPer to vote for any health care bill in the House, said he couldn’t vote for the Senate version because of abortion language he said didn’t go far enough, calling the procedure a “moral evil” akin to slavery.

“For me abortion is such a moral evil, at a par with slavery, that I cannot in good conscience support a bill that seeks to expand it,” Cao told the New Orleans Times-Picauyne.

Cao’s comments could serve as a galvanizer of fundraising dollars for Louisiana State Representative Cedric Richmond (D-New Orleans), a strong candidate to unseat him in the upcoming elections and popular candidate particularly in a district that voted nearly 3 to 1 for President Obama in the recent presidential election.
