Question: I believe that God is in total control of this world. With all the bad things that are happening today, God is only allowing the devil to do what he was created to do and that is to kill, steal and destroy. Therefore, what assurances do we have from God to protect us from this vicious beast?

Response: Certainly there are a lot of horrible things going on in the world news today. Airplanes are crashing, earthquakes are becoming a regular occurrence, drug cartels are slaughtering people every day on the streets and terrorists are trying to get their hands on the nuclear bomb, just to name a few. Unfortunately this is only the beginning of sorrow. God does not want us to live our lives in fear, because fear is of the devil. But we do have some promises from God to reassure us that He is with us. He has promised to supply every need we have. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

He has promised that His grace is sufficient for us. “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” II Corinthians 12:9

He has promised that His children will not be overtaken with temptation. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” I Corinthians 10:13

God has promised us victory over death. “So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.” I Corinthians 15:54

God has promised that all things work together for good to those who love and serve Him faithfully. “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

God has promised that those who believe in Jesus Christ and are baptized for the forgiveness of sins will receive the power of the Holy Ghost. “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.” Acts 2:38

And God has promised His people eternal life. “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” John 10:27-28

Because the Lord is my shepherd, I have no need to want or to be afraid. Is He your shepherd?
