Minorities have special problems finding work in this recession

If you are a minority having trouble getting a job, you’re not alone experts say.  Minorities have special trouble in comparison with non-minority workers.  What are the issues right now?

Even the employment ads on television and in magazines give a message that it is the younger worker employers want.

The job market is tight these days for everyone, but reports indicate especially worse for minorities, older people, the disabled, pregnant women and immigrants.  These folks have ordinarily experienced discrimination, but the problems they have increase during difficult economic times.

Academic studies and news reports observe that some of this discriminaton is bold and overt.  Bureau of Labor statistics are especially telling, with reports the unemployment rate for black male college graduates 25 and older was nearly twice the unemployment rate for white male college graduates 25 and older in 2009.

The Equal Opportunity Commission and other groups provide the following information about the laws against discriminatory practices that include disparate:

-Hiring and firing
-Compensation, assignment, transfer, training, promotion and classification
-Disability leave, fringe benefits and other conditions of employment
-Harassment, employment decisions based on stereotype and denial of employment opportunities
