From The Natchitoches Times, David Royal reporting

The St. Matthew School Community Association (SMSCA) presented its $1.8 million revitalization plans for the parish’s historic school to the public Thursday, May 27 at the Natchitoches Event Center.

The SMSCA requested grants for an eight-phase project that will restore the old school in Melrose and allow it to be utilized by the surrounding communities.

Executive Director Marvin Toussaint said the St. Matthew School has a rich history and these projects would help ensure that it continues to be shared.

“We should not allow this part of history to be forgotten,” said Toussaint, who is also an alumnus of the school. “Our plans will make sure St. Matthew’s place in time is secure.”
