State Rep. Chris Roy today passed a resolution through the House expressing support for consolidation of inpatient and outpatient services at Huey P. Long Medical Center in order to provide continued health care for the region.

Roy said he is urging the governor, the LSU Board of Supervisors and the secretary of the Dept. of health and Hospitals to take all actions necessary to streamline services and create a fiscally responsible, viable public medical center in central Louisiana capable of continuing its integral role in health workforce training and delivery of high quality direct  patient care.

Roy said Huey P. Long has a long standing reputation as an excellent training facility for all aspects of the medical community, and provides vital services for the underserved rural parishes in central Louisiana.

“This facility provides excellent, much needed medical training and provides our citizens with quality health care,” Roy said.

“Additionally, it has an economic impact of $135 million annually and provides 528 full time jobs. For these reasons, this facility is vital to central Louisiana.  I am calling on the Governor, the LSU Board of Supervisors, and the secretary of DHH to see that  an economically feasible solution  is found to keep this facility open to serve and help sustain central Louisiana.”

House Resolution 133, which overwhelmingly passed the House was co-authored by Reps. Andy Anders, James Armes, Billy Chandler, Herbert Dixon, Noble Ellington, Chris Hazel, Dorothy Sue Hill, Frankie Howard, Robert Johnson, Bernard LeBas, and Rickey Nowlin.
