The state Senate Committee on Finance put its stamp on the state operating budget Tuesday, reducing the Louisiana House’s cuts to higher education and health care.

Lawmakers made the changes to House Bill 1, the $25 billion state operating budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1, during a nearly three-hour meeting at the State Capitol.

“We came together and put together a responsible plan,” said state Sen. Mike Michot, R-Lafayette and chairman of the Senate Finance Committee.
