State Fair starts today

The 104th State Fair of Louisiana kicks off its three-week run today through Nov. 7 with “1,000 Flavors of Fun.”

Once again, the season will open with Dollar Day where guests can enjoy free parking and admission from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and $1 for parking, admission and rides between 3 and 10 p.m. Select food items will be a dollar as well.

Here’s a few more quick facts about what to expect at this year’s state fair:

Hours: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. today, Sunday, Wednesday, Oct. 28 and 31, Nov. 3, 4 and 7; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Oct. 29, 30, Nov. 5 and 6 at Louisiana State Fairgrounds, 3701 Hudson Ave., Shreveport. The fair is closed on Monday and Tuesdays.

What’s new: Prairie View A&M vs. Southern University football game, 4 p.m. Saturday; Extreme Green Science Planet Show, daily; Dock Dogs, daily; World Championship Blacksmiths, Oct. 22-24 and “A Taste of Mexico,” Hispanic Heritage Day, Nov. 7.

Daily free shows and attractions: Circus Hollywood, Dock Dogs, The Caboodlestoppers, Nicktorious “Escape Artist,” Fresh Kidz, Amazing Marlo Magic Show, Rock-It Robot, Washboard Willy, Jukebox’s Jim’s One Man Band and all live music concerts.

Cost: $5 to $75.
