Doubleheader tilt, starting at 2 pm, to be televised on Southland Conference Television Network; full slate of events for fans

The second-running of Northwestern State’s Faith & Family event has been set for Saturday, January 22, 2011, when the Demons host a Southland Conference doubleheader against rival McNeese State in Prather Coliseum, and is slated to include a post-game concert as well as a host of activities throughout the day.Tipping off the day, the men’s hoops squad will face the Cowboys at 2 p.m. before the women’s’ teams take the court at 4:30. Both games will be broadcast regionally on the Southland Conference TV Network.

Following the women’s game, the Tyler Hennessee Band of Shreveport will perform in Prather Coliseum. Admission to the concert is included with the purchase of a ticket to the basketball doubleheader. Special presale group rates are in place and can be purchased by calling (318) 357-4268.

“Last year, we had a good response to our ‘Faith & Family’ event, but we want to move it to the next level this year,” Adam Jonson, NSU’s assistant marketing director for tickets operations, said. “Both NSU basketball teams are fun to watch, and our post-game concert will feature an excellent talent that is a local recording artist.”

Music by Tyler Hennessee Band can be found on iTunes or at the band’s website at www.tylerhennessee.com.

“With a full day of activities, this is a great event for youth organizations, church congregations, local businesses and the casual fan.” Jonson said. “And at a savings of almost 50 percent, buying group tickets in advance is an unbeatable offer.”

The Faith & Family event will also include a chili-cookoff. Those interested in competing can contact assistant marketing director Alex Cook at (318) 357-5251 or by email at cooka@nsula.edu. Fans not participating in the cookoff will be able to purchase a wristband for $2 to sample the chili and cast their votes for the contest’s best entry.

“Our annual chili cookoff has become one of the most anticipated events during basketball season,” Cook said. “All of our cookoff contestants have a good time competing with one another, and it provides a great meal for fans between the two games of our doubleheader.”

Fans are encouraged to wear orange on Saturday, Jan. 22 and cheer the Demons and Lady Demons to victory before the post-game concert with Tyler Hennessee Band.

“We want to see a coliseum full of orange shirts,” Jonson said. “It makes for a great atmosphere and home-court advantage. Plus, if you spill chili on an orange shirt, it blends in and no one will notice.”

For more information or to purchase tickets for the Jan. 22 Faith & Family event, contact the NSU ticket office at (318) 357-4268 or jonsona@nsula.edu.
