NATCHITOCHES- Two Natchitoches Parish men each have been sentenced to 25 years in prison for separate armed robberies, according to Natchitoches Parish District Attorney Van Kyzar.

Chris T. Sherman, 21, of 434 Richard Jordan Loop in Robeline was found guilty last June of the July 2008 armed robbery of a clerk at the Travel Express Inn in Natchitoches.

During the trial, the victim testified that Sherman, a former employee, entered the motel and asked to use the phone. A second male entered the lobby wearing a mask. Both suspects bound the victim with duct tape, put a gun to the victim’s head and destroyed the security surveillance equipment. The safe was opened, and an unknown amount of money was taken, along with the clerk’s wallet.

In a separate case, Gregory R. Lewis, 20, of 116 Sherry Circle in Campti pleaded guilty in January before his trial was to start. Lewis was charged with the armed robbery of an individual in June 2010 who had picked up three males on U.S. Highway 71 in Campti who claimed they had run out of gas.

One of the males, Lewis, placed a gun to the victim’s neck and instructed him to drive to an ATM and withdraw $400 from the victim’s account. The victim escaped by jumping out of his car after the three began beating him. Lewis was identified from the ATM camera and arrested a short time later.

The sentences were handed down by District Judge Dee A. Hawthorne, who presided over both cases. Kyzar said both sentences are to be served without the possibility of parole.
