NATCHITOCHES- Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Victor E. Jones Jr. has announced he will run for re-election.

“Running for re-election as sheriff certainly isn’t about one person,” Jones said in a press release. “It’s about the entire (Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Office), which is comprised of over 200 professional law enforcement officers who represent the parish. I consider this campaign to be a public view of my job as sheriff and the overall status of NPSO.”

Jones was elected Natchitoches Parish sheriff in 1999 and was re-elected in 2003 and 2007.

Jones said that during his tenure, the department has increased deputy personnel by 12 percent, added a community services division, expanded the Natchitoches Parish Detention Center and implemented a professional development and career-advancement program for deputies.

He has 34 years of law enforcement experience and is a graduate of more than 20 professional education programs, including the FBI National Academy. Jones also served as president of the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Association from 2009 to 2010.

Jones pointed to the department’s Community Service Division, which is focused on helping children, families and senior citizens with outreach services.

“If we can reach people in a positive way, before they make bad choices in life, we have a chance to help them stay on the right path. Our Community Service Division helps accomplish this goal,” Jones said.

He said the department is working to fight crime and keep neighborhoods and communities safe.

“In the last three years, the patrol division has answered over 45,000 calls for service from the citizens,” he stated in the release. “Our investigators are working hard to stop felony crimes before they occur, especially crimes that endanger children. In fact, we have added new investigators to our force, whose main job is to investigate Internet-related sex offenses and get predators off of your child’s computer screen and into jail.”
