Ingrida Reyes of Ball walks on the Ball Walking Trail next to the Ball Municipal Building. Reyes, who has a 14-year-old son, said Ball is a nice place to raise a family because of the low crime rate and friendly people – and she likes the walking trail. BALL — When Roger Toney moved from New Orleans to Ball in 1983, he thought he had “died and gone to heaven.”

Country living near the city, access to good schools and friendly people are what Toney and many other Ball residents like about raising their families in the north Rapides Parish town of exactly 4,000 residents.

Those factors, along with low taxes, zoning laws, a low crime rate and good public services, helped lead to Ball being chosen by Bloomberg Businessweek as the “best place to raise kids in Louisiana.”

Lake Arthur in Jefferson Davis Parish was Bloomberg’s choice as runner-up.
