BATON ROUGE — Louisiana’s state-licensed casinos brought in more winnings from gamblers in September than they did a year earlier — and more than they did in August, according to the latest figures released Thursday to the state’s Gaming Control Board.

The total September take for Harrah’s Casino at New Orleans, the 13 riverboat casinos around the state and four slot-machine operations at horse tracks was $196.6 million, compared to about $186 million in August and a similar amount in September 2010.

One of the strongest increases was at L’Auberge du Lac in Lake Charles, which continues to be a popular casino resort with gamblers and saw a 13 percent boost in winnings in September when compared to the same month last year.

Harrah’s Casino in downtown New Orleans took in $30.8 million, compared to $27.6 million in September 2010, a nearly 12 percent jump, and $24.6 million in August, a 25 percent increase.

The 13 riverboats won $134.1 million from gamblers last month, up 5 percent from a year earlier when they won $127.7 million and up 3 percent from the August winnings of $129.8 million. The state has granted licenses to two other riverboat casinos that are under construction and have yet to open, one in Baton Rouge and another in Lake Charles.

Racetracks with slot machines took in $31.7 million in September, a 4 percent boost from the same time last year and a nearly 2 percent growth from August.
